Russian Information Security Company Positive Technologies also Fell Under the 11th Package of EU Sanctions
Last week, it became known that the EU imposed sanctions on PJSC “Group Pozitiv” (the parent company of the Positive Technologies group), as part of the 11th package of sanctions against Russia.
The company said that this decision is based on the fact that the company has a license from the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation and does not affect the Positive Technologies business in any way.
The document related to the new package of sanctions has already been published in the Official Journal of the EU and has entered into force.
It is strange that the Russians are outraged, because let me remind you that we also wrote that the U.S. Authorities Declared that Kaspersky Lab Products Endanger the US National Security, and also that the German authorities warned against using Kaspersky Lab products.
In addition to Positive Technologies, the heads of several Russian regions fell under the restrictions of the 11th package of EU sanctions, in particular, the plant named after. Sverdlov, the Zvezda TV channel, a number of individuals and legal entities, as well as the EU banned the pumping of Russian oil through the northern branch of the Druzhba pipeline.
As representatives of Positive Technologies explained, this time the sanctions are related to the fact that the company has a license from the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.
Recall that in 2021 Positive Technologies already fell under sanctions, but from the side of the American authorities. Then the United States officially held Russia responsible for the attack on SolarWinds and its customers.
The Joe Biden administration said the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service and its “government hackers” known as APT 29, Cozy Bear, or The Dukes were behind the attack, “using the SolarWinds Orion platform and other IT infrastructures as part of a large-scale cyber-espionage campaign.”
As a result, the US Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on six Russian IT companies that the US government believes helped the SVR and the GRU with their technical expertise and services during past operations.
The sanctions affected Technopolis Era, JSC Pasit, the Federal State Autonomous Scientific Institution Scientific Research Institute of Specialized Computing Devices and Security Automation, Neobit LLC, Advanced System Technologies JSC, and Positive Technologies JSC. In addition to them, the news agencies Southfront, Newsfront, Inforos and the Russian Strategic Culture Foundation fell under the sanctions.
In particular, then the US Treasury stated that Positive Technologies has clients in the Russian government, including the FSB, and also regularly holds large-scale conferences where the FSB and the GRU recruit new employees for themselves.
Let me remind you that the media wrote what happens to the leaders of companies in Russia, that they do not cooperate with the FSB or somehow cooperate incorrectly: The head of the Group-IB arrested, searches were carried out in the company’s office.
