Positives

A backup offsite suite offers 50GB of hosted storage for online backups. That is generous than most, with 25GB being typical. If one makes shopping in a virtual desktop, Comodo prevents spyware programs and keyloggers from tracking keystrokes and reading the personal screen information. It also identifies unauthorized remote connections. Using a VPN encrypts the traffic as it travels to the VPN company's servers, protecting it from meddling by others on the same network, even by the owner of the network.

Negatives

During exploring the Comodo and shifting menus in a seconds, user will have no pop-ups, describing what changing topic will do. By default, the Comodo is permanently uploading most resent updates and “urging” the customer to restart the system. Probably, this is a thing most regular users will not like. Furthermore, Comodo regularly sends logs to its servers. The list of logs includes personal info, user name, and the company’s privacy policy states that they use this data for advertising. For 2020, this isn’t user-friendly behavior and turns the Comodo Antivirus into one of the least favorable choices for novices.

For the average scenario, one can use the Live Chat system. By default, the Comodo is permanently uploading the most recent updates and “urging” the customer to restart the system. For average customers, the Comodo Internet Security may look like a too sophisticated product. Meanwhile, Comodo delivers a rich menu of smart tools that, probably, will be highly absorbed by the expert and technically trained customers. Alas, regarding the phishing and ransomware protection, Comodo Internet Security is not so smart. Probably, this can be depicted why we can’t recommend this soft to the high-professional users. Of course, it’s not a nightmare scenario for marker players, but the product is not attractive for the wide line of probable users.

Further, during the free edition uploading, the user should be very precise to avoid any new setting to OS as the Comodo Antivirus will automatically reshape the primary search engine and browser. The basic conclusion is: if a customer prefers a highly smart and flexible antivirus with lots of components, the above-mentioned antivirus can be a relevant solution. Simultaneously, for a middle customer, this instrument might look like too sophisticated.

Lab test conclusion: for Comodo

Comodo Internet Security Complete is presented on the market with the scheduled antivirus and firewall, with cloud backup, a VPN, and some additional details. At the same time, the product performed modest scores during testing. And the VPN and cloud backup mechanisms in some cases, as reported by the independent observers do not deliver the appropriate function. In such a context, presumably, the well-known antivirus testing labs, that regularly publishing reports, forced Comodo products through precise evaluations, and only one of them placed Comodo Internet Security Complete in its newest expert review.

So, according to the AV-Test 2019 scoring schedule, a definite product can collect the 17.5 points. Simply to compare,  Norton, Bitdefender, and Kaspersky reached the 18 points during the most recent test. Regarding zero-day attacks: includes email and web attacks, the Comodo gathered a 100% protection score.  In a well – known malware test, Comodo Internet Security Complete showed a 100 % result.  Concerning the virus protection, the Comodo combined rating totaled 6/6. In the performance evaluation, the AV-Test Institute labeled it a 5/6 rating. The score wasn’t the top, be course, the app a little slowing the overall performance during work. In the usability field, Comodo collected 5.5/6, while a max. total —  16.5/18 points. Reportedly, Microsoft’s built-in Defender gathered 17 points and McAfee performed 18.

It’s deserved to note that, during a series of advanced tests, some EICAR files were uploaded, and Comodo Internet Security swiftly protected the system from potentially unwanted applications (PUP) and drive-by uploads. But notably, regular software from the EICAR list was undetected with the antivirus. But when, compressed extensions, for example, .zip is scanned, Comodo able to identify everyone. As detected by the specialists, the ransomware shield is strong, but the antivirus has some points during interaction with hand-made samples. It is sad, but maybe appropriate to say, that Comodo was incapable to pass phishing tests, despite web filter is depicted as an Internet Security tool. Generally speaking, the app identified and stopped only 15% of phishing pages. That is one of the modest results on the market. For comparison, Avast performed 98% identification; Kaspersky identified and cleaned 100% of the hazardous sites.

? Comodo Internet Security Interface

On average, the Comodo Internet Security consumes 15-20 minutes to install. The scan that automatically starts after installation is included in the time mentioned. This is a little bit longer than the middle sector time but generally is ok. Most likely, the Comodo Internet Security will upload the newly written updates after the scan. The antivirus in some basic features has the same architecture as Comodo free antivirus released two years ago and has not been changed significantly during the period.

A comprehensible rectangular panel indicates the user about the security status: Green light means good working status, red or yellow signal appears if anything needs repairing.  Four smaller panels provide quick access to start an antivirus scan, release an app from the sandbox, check for updates or open the Secure Shopping Environment. The key difference is, that Comodo last panel launches Comodo’s virtual desktop instead.

Comodo Internet Security supports Windows, Mac, and Linux. Primarily, Comodo was masterminded as a PC use product. But, as frequently mentioned by some experts, an app can be a little bit sophisticated for an inexperienced user. This impression, firstly, is evident due to processes reflected in every single menu. Some options or settings, secondly, sometimes are difficult to search and find. For a good,  the app’s navigation is moderately simple.

As a result, the user will find accessing – shifting menus in seconds. What is necessary to take into account, is, that the app’s interface will change simultaneously. There are no pop-ups describing what changing topic will do. By default, the Comodo is permanently uploading the most recent updates and “urging” the customer to restart the system. Probably, this is a thing most regular users will not like. Additionally, Comodo from time to time sends logs to its servers. The logs list includes personal data, user names and privacy policy. For 2020 apps, this isn’t a user-friendly approach and makes a Comodo Internet Security into one most unpopular product for novices.

? Scanning options

The full scan usually takes 1 hour and 20 minutes, —  a little bit slower than the sector normative, but moderate acceptable. As it has a non-significant effect on file system performance tests. Comodo Internet Security scans usage means a one-click approach:  a “Scan” button placed on the main menu. The buttons for the regular Quick and Full scans are visible for a first glance. In the beginning, the user can apply a basic scan to identify a trust level Comodo’s database defines for the files on the computer. In case a rough malware resists the cleaning, the user can start the cleanup-only Comodo Cleaning Essentials option.

There’s also a Rating Scan. This feature shapes a “reputation list” for the data on the OS. This list will include files that aren’t purely dangerous but are not fully reliant.  And if an app can’t root out persistent dirty data, the user can apply a Rescue Disk on a clean system. The Rescue Disk boots into an alternate operating system, leaving Windows-centric malware powerless. By default, Comodo’s shield system — Sandbox, starts new programs in a virtual mode, therefore,  these data unable to make any significant damage.

The Comodo free antivirus has several additional functions.  For instance — Comodo Dragon is a Chromium-based browser with line extensions embedded in it. The next feature — the Virtual Desktop, —  isolates user’s programs from the unplanned changes on a regular desktop.  One supplementary tool — a Host Intrusion Prevention System  — (HIPS) —  borders non-identified activities. Enhanced instruments provide the possibility to analyze current tasks and, if necessary, cancel them in various ways.

? Comodo Firewall

Comodo delivers its firewall as an autonomous free product, that has some ancillary features similar to the free antivirus. With mighty firewall protection embedded into Windows, it makes a useful supplementary tool for a security suite. With Comodo’s firewall, the user has several choices. Usually, the middle user who is getting the PC settings by the default receives the easiest application control. In the beginning, the firewall runs in Safe Mode, which filters in — outbound traffic without displaying any pop-up alerts.

If alerts are enabled, the user will be notified in case a new program is accessing. Five distinct frequency levels for those alerts are delivered to the user. To cut down the number of pop-ups, one can set it to create access rules for programs that Comodo certifies as safe. There is a basic Virtual Desktop the user can apply in Comodo Internet Security in order to protect some sensitive activities. Processes in the Virtual Desktop can’t make any permanent changes to the system. If the user runs a sketchy program and it misbehaves, one should just empty the containment system to cancel its actions.

? Secure Shopping

If one makes shopping in a virtual desktop, Comodo prevents spyware programs and keyloggers from tracking keystrokes and reading the personal screen information. It also identifies unauthorized remote connections.

To start secure shopping, one should click the Secure Shopping icon on the main window. A separate shopping desktop will be shown on the taskbar. And for a high level of security, one can enter sensitive data using a floating virtual keyboard. Comodo doesn’t come with a list of known shopping sites.

The use must plunge into Settings and create the list. When the user visits a site on the list, Comodo gives three alternatives. In such a context two scenarios are appropriate clear: the user can open the site in the Secure Shopping Environment, or continue using the unsecured browser. The third scenario – to visit the site via the Secure Browser, keeps the user on the usual desktop, but applies Secure Shopping technology to the current browser.

? Online Backup

A backup offsite suite offers 50GB of hosted storage for online backups.  That is generous than most, with 25GB being typical. To find it, click Tasks from the home page, select the General Tasks tab, and click Cloud Backup.

? VPN Testing

Like maintaining online backups, using a virtual private network, or VPN is a kind of outside-the-box security technique. The local security suite can’t do a thing to protect data once it heads out into the wilds of the internet. Using a VPN encrypts the traffic as it travels to the VPN company’s servers, protecting it from meddling by others on the same network, even by the owner of the network.

The TrustConnect VPN, that is needed to be activated by the user,  — features is even more elusive than the backup system. It doesn’t show up on the main window, and only appears in Settings on the firewall page, where user can choose to have Comodo suggest using the VPN when is connected to a risky network.  TrustConnect’s interface is minimal, consisting mostly of a notification area plates and its menu.

Customer Support

Support via the phone is only available for premium users. For the average scenario, one can use the Live Chat system. To have access to the chat it is necessary to click the “How Can I Help You?” button in the bottom right corner. Most of the time, there’s an AI on the other side of the Live Chat. With time auto-answers will be replaced by a human agent for further conversation.

? Comodo Pricing

The free version is quite impressive and capable to protect the PC. The Valkyrie scan delivers always the same. That means the user is not forced to purchase a paid edition to enhance antivirus performance. For secure shopping and unlimited support, the Advanced Antivirus package is proposed usually.

Second option: Comodo Internet Security Pro, which adds a firewall, web filtering anti-phishing protection and a virus-free guarantee.  Finally, there’s IS Complete. For the mentioned early,  it adds 50GB of secure online storage and TrustConnect Wi-Fi Security. So the user can use a public Wi-Fi network without the risk of stealing personal data.

Comodo offers the following subscription options:

Every single paid plan provides a 30-day trial advantage.
